*Alarmed by Thursdays air crash incident involving a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, major airlines around the world have announced that they will avoid the east Ukrainian air space. *

"Lufthansa has decided to avoid the east Ukrainian air space by a wide margin with immediate effect," Germanys largest airline said in a statement.

The airline would continue to serve the airports of Kiev and Odessa for now, added a company spokeswoman.

A Malaysia plane was shot down on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard and sharply raising stakes in a conflict between Kiev and pro-Moscow rebels.

Meanwhile, Russias state-controlled Aeroflot will no longer fly over Ukraine, an official at the airline said. Itar-Tass news agency quoted Russias Emergencies Ministry as saying there were no Russians on board the plane.

The Turkish Airlines also said that all of its flights would avoid Ukrainian airspace.

"After the incident we have decided to avoid Ukrainian airspace," a Turkish Airlines spokesman said.

British Airways said that it was keeping its once-a-day route between Heathrow airport and Kiev under review after a Malaysian Airline flight was shot down in eastern Ukraine.

"Our flights are not using Ukrainian airspace, with the exception of our once-a-day service between Heathrow and Kiev," a British Airways spokeswoman said.

"We are keeping those services under review, but Kiev is several hundred kilometres from the incident site." Reported by Deccan Herald 12 hours ago.
